The Great Gatsby – Chapter 7-9

Which the parts let me cry – shacking my heart

Hello, everyone. I am back! The best way to respect a book is to finish it. I am honored to have finished reading this book. Let’s start with my personal feelings first. The last three chapters really touched my feelings. My tears came out of my eyes. I can’t believe it. So, today’s content, I will tell why I shed my tears.

THE GREAT GATSBY

Gatsby’s dream is broken
Remember that green light from Gatsby? Green light has always been pursued by Mr. Gatsby. In the end, Mr. Gatsby failed to have the green light. Green light is the key in the dark; green light is a spiritual pursuit; green light is a rare light: green light is the color of the aurora borealis. Green light is Mr. Gatsby’s dream. This dream is Daisy. He had been trying to pursue Daisy and was obsessed with Daisy. Whether it was five years ago or five years later, Gatsby’s love for Daisy will never change.

“Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And one fine morning—— So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.’’

This quotation really meaningful. This is Nike’s assessment of Mr. Gatsby. I can’t read it. I can’t guess it. I can’t understand. Why was Gatsby born because of his dream, persistent because of his dream, and finally died because of his dream? Did he die of his persistence? Why is such a hard worker has such a bad result?

This is part of movie relate the sense which lets me cry. You can see it if you want to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du2ZgCcH33A

The title is, the great Gatsby. But why is it great? I’m going to solve that question.

“No wasting time at Shaster’s [a name, indecipherable], no more smoking or chewing, bath every other day, read one improving book or magazine per week, save $5.00 [crossed out] $3.00 per week, be better to parents”

Gatsby is great is because he has a dream for is career and future. Gatsby came from a humble background with very little, but he persevered and had the courage and determination to change his fate. He never wasted his time doing useless things. He made a “personal schedule” as a child and stuck to it.

As Nick said, Gatsby is noble, unlike others who are immersed in a world full of lies and hypocrisy. He never changed his mind in pursuit of his dream. His dream was beautiful and was not material, not about fame nor even power. Gatsby was a son of god with a Platonic vision in which he clung to the end of his days and devoted himself to a broad, secular and flashy beauty.

In addition, I was moved by the fact that this book has too many meaningful quotes.. You will have a different understanding when you are at different ages. I found some famous quotations.. You can enjoy it.https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/245494-the-great-gatsby

The Great Gatsby – Chapter 4-6

About Interesting Facts

Hi everyone. Finally, I was reading chapter 4,5,6. So happy. The story is going smoothly. I found some interesting facts in these stories. I want to record it and share it.

Fact 1 – Gatsby’s background

Mr. Gatsby’s identity appeared first. Mr. Gatsby first told Nick about his background and background for his first time. It’s just so curious about me. Mr. Gatsby said he came from a wealthy family and inherited the family’s legacy. He also studied at Oxford University. Moreover, he won a medal in World War I. It is incredible that someone should have such a perfect background.

I can’t believe it, but I want to believe that maybe there are such people in the world. Nike clearly had an attitude and expression of shock but did not question Mr. Gatsby because he lived in West Egg’s huge house. So it’s obviously not surprising to have such an identity. But is Gatsby really like that? Maybe, maybe not.

However, in chapter 6, Mr. Gatsby’s early life is mentioned.

1)Gatsby was born James Gatz on a North Dakota farm
2) He attended college at St. Olaf’s in Minnesota, but he dropped out after two weeks.
3) He worked on Lake Superior.
4) Follow the rich man, Dan Cody because of the storm.

Mr. Gatsby’s identity is slowly emerging. From his information, I can tell that Mr. Gatsby is a very smart, gentleman, hard-working man. Although I don’t know if his money is illegal, I think he has experienced a lot and it is not easy. There is a hard struggle behind the success.

Fact 2 – Car

“I’d seen it. Everybody had seen it. It was a rich cream colour, bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its monstrous length with triumphant hatboxes and supper-boxes and tool-boxes, and terraced with a labyrinth of windshields that mirrored a dozen suns. Sitting down behind many layers of glass in a sort of green leather conservatory, we started to town.”

Do you know Mr. Gatsby’s car? The car that appeared in the novel. I don’t know anything about cars, but I have the Internet so I can find information. The yellow car shocked Nike. It must be a luxury car. According to my investigation, the name of the car is Duesenberg. The model of the yellow car is Model J. It claimed at the time that “this is the best car in the world.”

The chassis of the Dusenberg Model J cost $8500 and the finished car sold for $13000 to $19000. At the time, the average annual salary of American physicians was less than $3000, and it was conceivably more expensive for Dusenberg cars exported to Europe at the time. For a time, Model J was used as a status symbol in Europe and the United States, and many celebrities prided themselves on owning a Model J.

In this day and age, the car is worth about $3 million. I think this must be a car that someone with status and status can afford. A lot of people can’t make so much money in their lives. Here is a link where you can learn more about the car if you are interested. https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2018/07/03/duesenberg-model-j-greatest-car-of-1920s

Fact 3 –  Daisy’s crying for shirts

‘They’re such beautiful shirts,’ she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. ‘It makes me sad because I’ve never seen such—such beautiful shirts before.”

In the sixth chapter of the novel, there is a scene that is very interesting, but it makes me sad. Mr. Gatsby threw his shirt at Daisy one by one. But in the end, Daisy began to cry. When I first felt like I saw this, I was confused. I was thinking, how beautiful are these shirts? Beautiful enough to cry at a glance? These shirts may have magic. Anyway, I haven’t cried about which clothes are beautiful. But, I think, in this world, different people have different feelings, maybe have someone like Daisy.

But I thought about it again. Daisy didn’t cry because the shirt was too beautiful. It was just an excuse. The gorgeous soft shirt is a metaphor for Gatsby’s feelings for Daisy. This emotion is obsessive. He threw his shirts in front of Daisy one by one, eager to show off his present wealth and achievements. What he wanted to say to Daisy was that he was now fully capable of giving her the best in the world, as long as she wanted it. And these “shirts” piled higher and higher, causing people to gradually produce fear and depression-so many expensive shirts, such passionate and crazy love, how will she bear it?

In my opinion, Daisy was happy when Gatsby threw her clothes, Nick motioned to her when she had something to say to Gatsby, and she thought of her husband. There was a contrast in Daisy’s mind. Daisy’s not crying because of her clothes. But the heart is sad and happy contradictory emotion catharsis.

The Great Gatsby- Chapter 1-3

Infinite imagination

Let me say, an interesting book has an interesting soul. Oh my god, this book is so interesting and wonderful. It will be my favorite book. Today, I want to talk about my feelings and associations when I finish reading the three chapters.

First of all, I want to say. When I saw The title of The book, The Great Gatsby, yes, what I thought was, was The man named Gatsby so Great? Why is he great? Who is he? But I think Gatsby must be the main character. With my questions in mind, I began to read the first chapter. Interestingly, the book describes Gatsby from someone else’s point of view. Oh, it’s very new. It’s the first time I’ve read a novel from other people’s perspective. I feel like I’ve opened the door to a new world.

The book’s protagonist, Mr Gatsby, does not appear in the first two chapters! It made me so anxious that he didn’t show up yet. The only thing that appeared was his back description and the green light. The book’s protagonist, Mr Gatsby, does not appear in the first two chapters! I mean that is Gatsby appeared only once, or was alone by the water at night, reaching out to the green tower lamp opposite the water. This scene is very meaningful. It is very easy to picture this scene in my mind. Reach out to grasp, to get is generally their own inner desire, want things. Here, I think it may be Mr. Gatsby’s dream or belief. He wanted it very much. He seemed very persistent. He seemed to be a man with a story. Wow, I have a feeling that is I want to read more.

“I’m glad it’s a girl. And I hope she’ll be a fool—that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”’

When I read this sentence, I fell into thinking.
I like that. This sentence is very meaningful. Perhaps, as a girl, do not have any bad mood, do not produce any bad ideas, be a fool, do not know anything, know what happiness, cherish happiness, have a simple life. Maybe that’s what a girl should have. This is my understanding of this sentence. Maybe my understanding is different from yours, because the angle is different. However, this sentence represents the love and desire of all mothers for their daughter.

Next, I’m going to start shocking Mr. Gatsby’s party. This book describes the era of the 1920s in the United States, in which women’s clothes are already very delicate and beautiful. Art Deco is most commonly used in architecture and clothing. Fancy parties, luxury clothes, high-end places. It’s hard to imagine. The description of Gatsby’s house and the party has limited my imagination. If I had the chance, I’d really like to join Mr. Gatsby’s party and enjoy it.

Here is a video to enjoy the 1920s fashion.
You know, this fashion is still popular today.

At Mr. Gatsby’s party, there was endless wine, plenty of food, limousine service, bright lights, gorgeous fireworks, and so on. There’s nothing you can’t think of, nothing he can’t do. Gatsby gave the best service to the guests, showing how healthy and courteous he was. From this point of view of the luxury party, I can say that Gatsby is great. No one can have such a fancy party, no one can surpass Gatsby. It’s amazing and great.

“He smiled understandingly-much more than understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced–or seemed to face–the whole eternal world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey.”

When I read this, Mr. Nick described Mr. Gatsby’s smile very funny. This let me fall into the association, this smile may be a kind of pride, a kind of kindness, a meaningful, a sign of the smile.

Because of a smile, it is very difficult to impress Nick.
We meet different people every day, see a lot of smiles, can make a person impressive smile, must be very iconic.

This special smile, in my life, I have never seen a smile that can be described in this way, if there is, I will certainly remember. I very much look forward to seeing such a smile in the future. A smile is a direct pass between people.

Of course, if you really want to know Mr. Gatsby’s smile, I found a video that explains some of the author’s understanding of the smile description. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDJbEoKpB4A

Although I have just read this, I do not know what kind of man he is, but I already have a good impression of Mr. Gatsby. He is a persistent pursuit of dreams, very rich, young, handsome, gentleman, etiquette, and generosity.

This is really a very interesting book, meaningful, content, so that I have the motivation and interest to continue to read.

Also, the above are all from my personal imagination and event opinion. There are no searches or sources of information.

Question 2, Do you have anything to say about my first blog?

My First Blog Post

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

— Oscar Wilde.

This is the first post on my new blog. I’m just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
